On 05/23/2026, a South Jordan police officer attempted a traffic stop on a Toyota occupied by three boys believed to be under 18 after police reported the vehicle was speeding and driving recklessly in the West Jordan area. According to investigators, the driver continued driving away and the officer discontinued the pursuit and deactivated emergency equipment shortly afterward. Police said the Toyota continued at high speed before crashing into an SUV at the intersection of Mountain View Corridor and Old Bingham Highway in West Jordan. One juvenile passenger in the Toyota was killed in the collision. Another occupant and the driver were transported to hospitals in critical condition. The adult driver of the SUV suffered severe injuries and underwent surgery. Authorities have not yet publicly released the identities of those involved. The crash remains under investigation.
