On 05/23/2026, U.S. Secret Service agents opened fire on Nasire Best, 21, near the intersection of 17th Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue NW outside the White House complex in Washington, D.C. According to federal authorities, Best approached a White House security checkpoint carrying a firearm and opened fire toward officers. Secret Service agents returned fire, striking and killing him.
