On 05/06/2026, Ellis County deputies responded to the 100 block of Carol Lane in Red Oak after reports that Michael Bradley Davis Sr., 49, was suicidal and had already shot himself. Deputies entered the residence and attempted to communicate with Davis while emergency medical personnel staged nearby. According to investigators, Davis was holding a firearm during the encounter. Police said Davis pointed the gun toward deputies, and at least one deputy opened fire, striking and killing him. Davis was pronounced dead at the residence. The Texas Department of Public Safety Rangers are conducting the investigation into the shooting. Family members later described Davis as struggling with severe emotional distress before the incident.
