OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/24/2026, Floyd County sheriff’s deputies attempted a traffic stop in Floydada. Police said the driver refused to stop and deputies escalated a pursuit southbound along U.S. 62 and Texas 207 into Crosby County. During the chase, authorities said the driver stopped briefly and left a female passenger on the roadside before continuing to drive away. The pursuit ended near the intersection of U.S. 62 and Crosby County Road 144 outside Ralls. Police said the driver exited the vehicle holding a firearm. Deputies repeatedly ordered the person to drop the gun. Authorities said the individual fired at law enforcement officers and deputies opened fire, killing the person. No officers were reported injured. Texas Rangers are leading the investigation. Police have not publicly released the identity of the deceased.
