OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/24/2026, officers with the Floydada Police Department and deputies from the Floyd County Sheriff's Office attempted a traffic stop in Floydada. Clayton Lee Oden did not stop and continued driving, leading officers on a pursuit south on U.S. Highway 62/82 into Crosby County. During the pursuit, Oden left a female passenger on the side of the highway before continuing. His vehicle stopped near the intersection of U.S. Highway 62/82 and Crosby County Road 144 north of Ralls. Oden exited the vehicle armed with a firearm. According to authorities, he fired at officers, who returned fire, striking him. Oden was pronounced dead at the scene. The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting. On 06/16/2026, the Texas Department of Public Safety publicly identified the deceased as 45-year-old Clayton Lee Oden.
