On 05/25/2026, Connecticut state troopers attempted to stop a vehicle on Interstate 95 in New Haven. Police said the driver continued driving away, leading troopers on a pursuit. Authorities later stated the active chase was called off before the crash occurred because of safety concerns.
A short time later, the vehicle crashed head on into a pickup truck near Ella T. Grasso Boulevard and Legion Avenue in New Haven. The driver of the fleeing vehicle died from injuries sustained in the collision. Two other people were hospitalized with injuries.
Authorities had not publicly released the identity of the person killed as of initial reporting. Connecticut State Police and New Haven police continued investigating the pursuit and crash.
