OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/27/2026, Cobb County police responded to reports of a shoplifting incident at Town Center Mall in Kennesaw. Investigators said officers encountered Cortez Eatmon, 25, of Alabama, in the parking lot outside the mall. Police said Eatmon ran from officers when they approached him. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, officers attempted to use Tasers multiple times but they were ineffective. Police stated Eatmon then displayed a handgun during the foot chase, and an officer opened fire, striking him. Eatmon was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries. Witnesses at the mall disputed portions of the police account and described hearing multiple gunshots during the confrontation. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation.
