On 05/28/2026, Michigan State Police attempted to stop a 2021 Jeep on M-76 near Kuehn Road in Arenac County for speeding and improper lane use. Police said the driver, an 83-year-old woman from Sterling, accelerated away at a high rate of speed. Troopers said they did not continue a pursuit. A short time later, troopers observed a large cloud of dust ahead and found the Jeep had run off the roadway, struck trees, and caught fire. The woman died in the crash.
