On 05/26/2026, Metropolitan Nashville Police Department SWAT officers served a search warrant at a residence on Tampa Drive while investigating the fatal shooting of 19 year old Khaliq Simmons. Police said Brandon Surji, also known as Brandon Hunter, was wanted for questioning in the homicide investigation. During the warrant operation, officers entered the residence and located Surji inside. Police said Surji shot himself as officers moved in to take him into custody. He was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries. Authorities later identified Surji as the person who died during the warrant service. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was requested to review the incident.
