On 05/29/2026, officers with the San Bernardino Police Department responded to the New Zion Manor apartment complex at 2000 Jubilee Court after receiving a report involving the alleged sexual assault of a minor. Officers located Kevin Jay Lamar Huguley Jr., 36, and attempted to detain him inside an apartment.
Police stated that a physical struggle occurred and that Huguley broke free from officers. According to police, he then obtained a large kitchen knife from inside the residence. Officers reported that another struggle followed as they attempted to take him into custody. Police stated that Huguley moved toward officers while holding the knife. Officers opened fire, striking him.
Huguley was pronounced dead at the location. One officer sustained injuries during the confrontation and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Police have not publicly disclosed how the officer was injured. Detectives from the San Bernardino Police Department and investigators from the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office are conducting the investigation.
