On 05/15/2026, deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a man pounding on the doors of an occupied residence in the 5700 block of North Dixie Drive in Harrison Township near Dayton. The resident knew Albert Spann, 39, and reported that he had left the area before deputies arrived. Deputies later located Spann walking in the roadway nearby. Police stated that Spann did not comply with commands and continued walking away. Deputies deployed Tasers and took him into custody. During the arrest, police alleged that Spann placed a bag containing suspected narcotics into his mouth and attempted to swallow it. Deputies physically restrained him while attempting to prevent him from ingesting the substance. During the restraint, Spann experienced a medical emergency and became unresponsive. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Montgomery County Coroner's Office identified him the following day. Authorities have not released a final cause and manner of death. The incident remains under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and the Montgomery County Coroner's Office.
