OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/28/2026, deputies with the Greensville County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported domestic disturbance on Fiddlers Road near Emporia. While deputies were processing the call, a man identified by police as the involved individual approached while holding a firearm. Police stated that gunfire was exchanged between the man and deputies before he retreated into a residence. Shortly afterward, deputies reported hearing a gunshot from inside the home. Officers secured the area and later entered the residence, where they found the man dead from a gunshot wound. Authorities have not released his identity. A Greensville County deputy was injured during the incident and transported for medical treatment. The Virginia State Police is conducting the investigation. Mental health concerns have not been publicly reported.
