OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/01/2026, an Elk Grove Police Department officer observed a Hyundai that police described as suspicious on the east end of Brown Road at approximately 4:00 a.m. As the officer approached, one person exited the vehicle and ran away. Police then attempted to stop the Hyundai. The driver accelerated westbound on Brown Road at a high rate of speed.

Police chased the Hyundai until it crashed into a Tesla at the intersection of Brown Road and Elk Grove Florin Road. Four people were inside the Tesla. Two occupants of the Tesla were killed. Two additional occupants were transported to a hospital with injuries.

Two juveniles from the Hyundai were detained following the crash. The person who ran from the Hyundai before the pursuit was not among those detained.
