OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/02/2026, officers with the Atlantic City Police Department served a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of North Florida Avenue. Police stated that Donald Capriotti, also known as Donald Gardner, opened fire on officers as they entered the residence. Sergeant Christian Ivanov and another officer were struck by gunfire and injured. Police opened fire, killing Capriotti. Both injured officers were transported for medical treatment and were reported to be in stable condition. Authorities stated that Capriotti was prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior felony convictions. Public records indicate he was paralyzed from the chest down during a 2013 police shooting in Egg Harbor Township after a manhunt in which a police K-9 was also wounded. The New Jersey Attorney General's Office is conducting the investigation into the shooting.
