On 05/16/2026, Fort Worth police were investigating an unrelated incident near Interstate 820 and East Lancaster Avenue when officers stated that Jorge Contreras, 29, repeatedly drove past the area at a high rate of speed and allegedly drove toward officers. Police pursued Contreras as he continued driving. Officers later used a PIT maneuver to stop his vehicle. Police approached the vehicle and ordered Contreras to comply with commands. Police stated that Contreras grabbed an officer's firearm during the confrontation. Officers opened fire, striking Contreras. He was pronounced dead. Fort Worth police released body camera footage of the incident, and the shooting remains under investigation.
