OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/04/2026, deputies with the Monongalia County Sheriff's Office attempted to arrest Michael Bolyard in the parking lot of a CVS pharmacy at 1601 Earl L Core Road. Bolyard was the subject of an arrest warrant after authorities alleged he had been attempting to obtain a firearm despite being prohibited from possessing one due to prior criminal charges. During the encounter, Bolyard remained inside a vehicle and exchanged gunfire with deputies. Deputies returned fire, striking and killing him. Authorities stated that on 05/10/2026 Bolyard had previously barricaded himself inside a residence during a standoff, shot his dog, and set the home on fire before being taken into custody. The shooting remains under investigation.
