On 06/05/2026, Los Angeles Police Department officers attempted to stop Thomas Hearn while investigating a reported vehicle theft. Hearn continued driving, leading officers on a pursuit through Los Angeles that ended near Interstate 405 and Howard Hughes Parkway in Westchester. After the vehicle stopped, officers confronted Hearn and opened fire. He was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators reported that a 9mm Polymer80 semiautomatic handgun was recovered.
