On 06/07/2026, a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper observed a motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed on Highway 501 North and attempted a traffic stop. The motorcyclist continued driving, leading police on a pursuit toward downtown Conway. The rider turned onto Highway 548 and subsequently ran off the roadway into a ditch near Reevis Way. The motorcyclist died from injuries sustained in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
