On 06/07/2026 at approximately 2:10 a.m., a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper observed a motorcycle traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 501 at a high rate of speed and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The rider continued driving away while the trooper pursued toward downtown Conway. The Horry County Sheriff's Office responded to assist after the pursuit entered its jurisdiction.
The motorcycle turned onto Highway 548 near Reevis Way, left the roadway, entered a ditch, and crashed. The rider died at the scene. The Horry County Coroner's Office later identified him as Jimmy Gagum, 34.
