OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 06/07/2026, John Troy Lee allegedly shot and wounded a man at the Central States Fairground in Rapid City. Following the shooting, law enforcement launched a search for Lee. Officers with the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety and Oglala Sioux Tribe Police Department located him on the Pine Ridge Reservation. During the ensuing confrontation, an exchange of gunfire occurred. One tribal police officer was wounded and Lee was shot. He died from his injuries. The wounded officer was transported for medical treatment. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
