On 06/06/2026, Oregon Police Department officers responded to Mercy Health–St. Charles Hospital after receiving reports of an active shooter in the parking lot. Before Oregon officers arrived, a Mercy Health police officer encountered Christian Strassburg outside the hospital and fired their weapon during the incident. Strassburg was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities stated there were no additional injuries to hospital staff or members of the public. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting at the request of the Oregon Police Department. The identity of the hospital police officer has not been released.
