On 06/03/2026, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to reports of a man firing a shotgun at vehicles near the intersection of Lake Mead Boulevard and Sloan Lane in Las Vegas. Witnesses reported that Sergio Flores was shooting at passing traffic, a traffic signal controller, and other objects in the area. Officers arrived and ordered Flores to drop the weapon and surrender. Police deployed a less-lethal shotgun, striking Flores, but he remained armed and moved behind an electrical box. Officers continued giving commands, but Flores refused to surrender and reportedly told officers they would have to shoot him. Authorities stated that Flores then fired toward police. Officers Vega, Rivera, and Romo returned fire, striking Flores. Officers approached, rendered medical aid, and summoned medical personnel, but Flores was pronounced dead at the scene. One shotgun was recovered. No officers were reported injured. The incident remains under investigation.
