On 06/08/2026, Glendale Police Department officers responded at approximately 9:00 p.m. to the 3700 block of Honolulu Avenue after receiving reports that a man had assaulted his neighbor with a knife. Officers located the injured victim at the scene. Police reported that the alleged assailant, identified only as the victim's neighbor, then exited a nearby residence while armed with a knife. According to police, officers ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he instead moved toward them while still holding the knife. Officers fired, striking the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The neighbor who had reportedly been assaulted was transported to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The identity of the deceased has not been released. The California Department of Justice is conducting the independent investigation required under state law into the fatal police shooting.
