On 06/09/2026, Pittsburg Police officers attempted to stop a 52-year-old man who was known to have an active felony warrant related to child sexual abuse. The man did not stop and continued driving before abandoning his vehicle near Pittsburg-Antioch Highway and Loveridge Road. He fled into nearby marshland, where police established a perimeter. Crisis negotiators, SWAT officers, drones, K-9 units, and armored vehicles were used during a standoff that lasted approximately 10 hours. Throughout the incident, negotiators repeatedly attempted to persuade the man to surrender. Shortly before midnight, the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers fired their weapons, and no officers or members of the public were injured.
