On 05/28/2026, Buchanan County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a reported domestic hostage situation near Missouri Route 45 and U.S. 59 in Rushville. According to authorities, Marcus Alan Caldwell was reportedly highly agitated when deputies arrived. Police stated that Caldwell punched one deputy and struggled with responding officers as they attempted to take him into custody. Deputies restrained Caldwell, after which he experienced a medical emergency. Emergency medical personnel responded and transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
