On 06/10/2026, Harford County Sheriff's Office deputies investigating a suspected drug transaction attempted to stop a vehicle after observing multiple traffic violations. The driver did not stop and continued eastbound on Pulaski Highway (U.S. Route 40). The pursuit lasted approximately 96 seconds before the vehicle entered the intersection of Route 40 and Route 543, where it collided with four other vehicles and caught fire. The driver became trapped inside the burning vehicle and died at the scene. Two other people were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The pursuing deputy was identified as Senior Deputy Allen Jennings, a 10-year veteran of the Harford County Sheriff's Office. The Maryland Office of the Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division is investigating the incident.
