OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/11/2026 at approximately 8:30 a.m., members of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force attempted to serve arrest warrants on a man outside the Diamond Inn & Suites in the 1600 block of East Parham Road. The task force was assisted by the Henrico County Police Division. The warrants stemmed from felony charges filed in Richmond. Witnesses reported agents deployed several flash-bang diversionary devices before gunfire erupted. Witness Wayne Rawlings described hearing the diversion devices followed by gunfire.Authorities reported that the man was armed with a handgun during the attempted arrest. According to investigators, a federal agent fired during the encounter, striking the man. Officers rendered medical aid until Henrico County Division of Fire personnel arrived, but the man died at the scene. A Henrico County police officer sustained injuries during the incident and was transported to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation assumed responsibility for the shooting investigation at the request of Henrico County authorities. The involved federal agent was assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.
