On 06/10/2026, Birmingham police attempted to arrest Xavier Marquez Gray in the 3300 block of Avenue F on outstanding warrants. During the encounter, Gray ran from officers while carrying a handgun. Police reported that Gray pointed the handgun at officers during the foot pursuit, and an officer fired, striking him. Gray was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
