OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/12/2026, deputies with the Onslow County Sheriff's Office received information that 43-year-old Jarred Louis Mackey was inside an apartment at the Park West Apartments on Valencia Drive in Jacksonville after a multi-day manhunt. Mackey had been sought since 06/09/2026, when deputies alleged he fired a handgun toward a deputy during a foot pursuit after providing a false name during an investigation. Around 3:00 p.m., the Onslow County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team surrounded the apartment and announced their presence outside. During those announcements, deputies heard a gunshot from inside the apartment. After entering, deputies found Mackey dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. No other individuals were inside the apartment. Authorities stated the apartment belonged to one of Mackey's associates. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation assisted with the investigation, which remains ongoing.
