On 06/13/2026, Surprise Police Department officers responded to a residence near Reems Road and Greenway Road after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident. A caller reported that a father and son had been arguing and that multiple gunshots had been fired inside the home. Officers entered the residence and encountered 37-year-old Brandon Garcia. During the encounter, officers fired, striking Garcia. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers subsequently located 63-year-old Ruben Garcia, a retired Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputy, dead inside the home. Investigators believe Brandon Garcia fatally shot his father before officers arrived. The Glendale Police Department is conducting the investigation into the police shooting.
