OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/14/2026, Dodge County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to River Run Dog Park in the Town of Elba after receiving reports of an intoxicated man causing a disturbance and threatening members of the public. When deputies attempted to contact the man, he opened fire, striking a deputy multiple times. The deputy sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was rescued by responding officers. The man retreated into his vehicle, where he was later found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. A handgun was recovered near his body. Authorities stated that no law enforcement officers discharged their weapons during the incident. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation.
