On 06/13/2026, Coffee County Sheriff's Office deputies and Douglas Police Department officers responded to the Dollar General at 4736 E. Baker Highway after receiving reports of an armed man threatening employees and customers. According to investigators, 21-year-old Marquese Levone Ross was armed with an AR-style handgun and remained inside the store while law enforcement established a perimeter and attempted to negotiate with him. During the standoff, officers heard a single gunshot from inside the building. After entering the store, officers found Ross dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities reported that no law enforcement officers fired their weapons during the incident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting the independent investigation.
