OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/16/2026, Quapaw Nation Marshals Service officers located a stolen vehicle from Joplin, Missouri, at the Downstream Casino and Resort near Miami, Oklahoma. When officers attempted to contact the occupants, the driver did not stop and continued driving, leading officers on a pursuit onto Interstate 44. During the pursuit, the driver traveled the wrong way on the Will Rogers Turnpike while displaying a firearm. After the vehicle stopped near the Oklahoma Welcome Center at Exit 313, the driver and passenger, 35-year-old Lexi Lanaye Scheets of Willard, Missouri, exited the vehicle. Officers gave commands, and shots were fired. Scheets was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
