On 06/18/2026, Sturbridge Police Department, Southbridge Police Department, and Massachusetts State Police responded to the Sturbridge Plaza Hotel after reports that a vehicle had crashed into the building and shots had been fired. Investigators said a 28-year-old woman drove an SUV into the hotel while looking for two people known to her. She fired multiple shots into the building, striking a male hotel guest who was not one of the intended targets. Officers located the woman inside the hotel and attempted to speak with her and de-escalate the situation. According to the Worcester County District Attorney, the woman fired her gun again and then shot herself. Officers and emergency medical personnel provided lifesaving measures, during which they learned she was approximately eight months pregnant. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The male victim was transported to the hospital in critical but stable condition. Authorities described the incident as targeted domestic violence and said the two people the woman was seeking were not injured. The investigation is being conducted by the Sturbridge Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, and the Worcester County District Attorney's Office.
