OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 06/17/2026, at approximately 10:30 a.m., two Oneida County Sheriff's Office deputies went to a residence in the 5000 block of Lumen Lake Drive to arrest a person in connection with a felony investigation. According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, after deputies made contact, the person fired a gun. One deputy returned fire, striking the person. Emergency medical personnel responded, and the person was pronounced dead at the scene. No law enforcement officers or members of the public were injured. The deputies were placed on administrative assignment while the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation leads the investigation with assistance from the Marathon County Sheriff's Office, Newbold Fire Department, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Minocqua Police Department, Woodruff Police Department, Rhinelander Police Department, and a DCI Crime Response Specialist. The completed investigation will be submitted to the Oneida County District Attorney for review.
