On 06/17/2026, John Krga was shot and killed by a Oneida County Sheriff's deputy during an attempted arrest at his residence on Lumen Lake Drive in Minocqua, Wisconsin. Deputies Justin Orth and Alyssa Knabenbauer were attempting to arrest Krga on allegations of first-degree sexual assault of a child and repeated sexual assault of the same child. According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, during the arrest Krga produced a firearm and fired at the deputies. Deputy Justin Orth returned fire, striking Krga. Krga was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputy Alyssa Knabenbauer did not fire her weapon. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation, as required under state law for officer-involved deaths.
