On 06/17/2026, officers with the Anchorage Police Department responded to the Walmart Supercenter at 8900 Old Seward Highway after store loss prevention employees reported a suspected shoplifting incident involving 33-year-old Deandrea Lamar Robertson. According to police, Robertson displayed a handgun while attempting to leave the store, prompting officers to confront him in the parking lot. Police reported that Robertson fired at officers, striking two officers. Both officers returned fire, striking Robertson. Officers provided emergency medical aid until Anchorage Fire Department personnel arrived, but Robertson was pronounced dead at the scene. The two wounded officers were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Robertson had been violently arrested by a K9 in December 2025 by the same law enforcement agency.
