OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/04/2026, a Washington State Patrol trooper attempted to stop a vehicle that was traveling more than 130 mph on State Route 167 near State Route 18. The driver did not stop and continued driving westbound on SR-18, leading troopers on a pursuit. Moments later, the vehicle lost control, struck a guardrail, rolled over, and crashed into a pole near the Enchanted Parkway and Interstate 5 on-ramp in Federal Way. Eighteen-year-old Aniya Danielle Wellington was killed in the crash. Two other occupants were ejected and critically injured, while another occupant also died. Authorities stated no PIT maneuver or other tactical intervention was used. The Federal Way Police Department is investigating the crash because of the pursuit.
