On 06/19/2026, officers with the Oregon State Police and the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office located 49-year-old Daniel Edward Noonan on the Siletz River Highway while attempting to arrest him in connection with an alleged assault that had occurred several days earlier at a fruit stand near Newport. Investigators alleged that Noonan pushed a woman believed to be of Maya/Indigenous descent, attempted to take her purse, and yelled racial slurs during the attack. According to police, officers attempted to take Noonan into custody, and an encounter occurred during which officers fired their weapons, striking him. Noonan was pronounced dead at the scene. The involved officers were placed on administrative leave, and the Lincoln County Major Crime Team is investigating the shooting.
