On 06/21/2026, an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper was responding to an emergency call while traveling eastbound on State Route 2 in Lake County. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 61-year-old Jerry Alberico of Mentor was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes when his vehicle struck the patrol cruiser head-on near the Route 44 split. Alberico died at the scene. The trooper was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
