OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 06/19/2026, officers with the Mankato Department of Public Safety attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding. The driver did not stop and continued driving north on Highway 169 into St. Peter, where officers attempted to deploy stop sticks near Highway 99. The driver avoided the stop sticks, continued through St. Peter, and stopped at a residence in the 2100 block of Bunker Lane before barricading himself inside. Law enforcement established a perimeter, issued a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents, and attempted to negotiate with the man. During the standoff, multiple shots were fired, and a St. Peter police officer was struck in the arm. The officer was airlifted to a hospital in stable condition. After officers entered the residence, they found the man dead. Authorities have not released the man's identity or official cause of death. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident.
