On 06/04/2026, deputies with the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office responded to the 13000 block of Rivercrest Drive in Waterford after reports of a domestic disturbance involving property damage. Deputies arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of vandalism. According to the sheriff's office, the man continued to resist after being placed in handcuffs, and deputies applied a WRAP full-body restraint. While being restrained, the man became unresponsive. Deputies and emergency medical personnel provided medical aid before he was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Stanislaus County Coroner later identified the man as Shane Harlan. The incident remains under investigation by the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office and the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office.
