On 06/21/2026, Virginia Beach Police Department officers responded to a report of shots fired at an apartment complex on Birch Bark Court. Officers identified a vehicle believed to be involved and attempted a traffic stop on Interstate 264 near First Colonial Road. The driver did not stop and continued driving before pulling onto the shoulder. Police reported that the man then shot himself before officers made contact with him. Officers rendered medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers fired their weapons. The Virginia Beach Police Department Homicide Unit is investigating the incident.
