On 06/18/2026, officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department located a stolen vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. According to police, the driver continued driving, leading officers on a pursuit through multiple areas of the Las Vegas Valley. The pursuit ended near Flamingo Road and Koval Lane when the vehicle stopped and three people exited and ran. Police reported that 53-year-old Shane Hansen was armed with a handgun and fled on foot. According to investigators, Hansen pointed the handgun at pursuing officers during the encounter. Officers then fired their weapons, striking Hansen. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupants were taken into custody. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the shooting and released additional details during a critical incident briefing on 06/23/2026.
