On 06/20/2026, officers with the Mission Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 39-year-old Apolonio Perez. According to investigators, Perez continued driving and led officers on a pursuit through Mission. Police stated that Perez was intoxicated during the pursuit. The chase ended when Perez's vehicle crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Conway Avenue and 3 Mile Line Road. Patricia Ann Peña, 73, was a passenger in the struck vehicle and died from her injuries. Authorities charged Perez with murder, intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle, and evading arrest with a vehicle.
