On 06/20/2026, officers were called to a bar in Calais after Robert Boggia Jr. allegedly threatened patrons with a firearm. According to authorities, Boggia left before officers arrived. Police later observed him driving a red Corvette on Route 1 at an estimated 150 mph. Baileyville police attempted to catch up with the vehicle but were unsuccessful. A Washington County Sheriff's deputy later observed the Corvette traveling at a high rate of speed on Charlotte Road and attempted to catch up before coming upon the crash scene. Police reported that Boggia was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities stated that high speed was the primary contributing factor in the crash.
