OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/10/2026, Nevada State Police troopers were investigating a crash on northbound Interstate 11 near 4th Street when they encountered a Toyota 4Runner driven by Sean Shirazi, 45, with Corrine Barnes, 40, as a passenger. Troopers reported that the 4Runner entered a closed traffic lane, struck a tractor-trailer and continued through the crash scene.

A trooper stopped the 4Runner and approached it while giving commands to Shirazi. According to the arrest report, when the trooper opened the driver's door, Shirazi accelerated. The 4Runner struck the trooper and pinned him between the SUV and the front bumper of a firetruck.

While pinned, the trooper fired six rounds toward the driver's side of the 4Runner. The police gunfire struck both Shirazi and Barnes. Shirazi continued driving, struck another vehicle and left the scene.

Approximately an hour later, the 4Runner arrived at a Las Vegas-area hospital. Barnes had sustained a police gunshot wound to her left flank/rib-cage area and was pronounced dead at 3:04 p.m. The Clark County Coroner's Office identified her as Corrine Barnes, 40. Shirazi survived a gunshot wound to his upper left chest and was arrested.

Nevada State Police released video of the encounter showing the SUV pinning the trooper against the firetruck immediately before the trooper opened fire.

Shirazi was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter in Barnes's death. Prosecutors subsequently upgraded the charge to second-degree murder.

In August 2026, a Clark County grand jury indicted Shirazi on 15 counts, including second-degree murder, DUI-related charges and battery and assault with a deadly weapon against a first responder. The indictment alleges that Shirazi was under the influence of three drugs when he drove toward the trooper and pinned him against the firetruck.

The indictment does not change the physical cause of Barnes's death: a Nevada State Police trooper fired into the vehicle and fatally shot her. The murder charge against Shirazi is based on prosecutors' allegation that his conduct precipitated the fatal police gunfire.
