OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/29/2026, deputies with the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office attempted to locate a man wanted in connection with a double shooting in Springfield. The man fled in a vehicle, leading law enforcement on a multi-county pursuit involving the Stark County Sheriff's Office and the Illinois State Police. The pursuit ended on North Kramm Road north of Illinois Route 8 in rural Brimfield, where officers stopped the vehicle. Before officers could take him into custody, the man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Illinois State Police are conducting the investigation. Authorities had not publicly released the man's identity at the time of the initial reports.
