OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 06/29/2026, deputies with the Broward Sheriff's Office Fugitive and Gang Unit attempted to serve an active arrest warrant on a man at a Wawa gas station in the 6300 block of Stirling Road in Davie. As deputies approached, the man ran from the scene while holding a handgun. Deputies caught up to him and struggled with him for more than a minute while repeatedly ordering him to release the firearm. After breaking free, the man ran through the parking lot toward a nearby McDonald's while still armed. Authorities said he attempted to point the firearm at law enforcement officers, at which time six Broward Sheriff's Office deputies and one Plantation Police officer fired their weapons, fatally striking him. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Several deputies sustained minor scrapes during the struggle. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
