OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/29/2026, Escambia County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to reports of shots fired at a residence on Atmosphere Road near Atmore. According to investigators, the man involved had allegedly made violent threats toward neighbors and responding deputies before barricading himself inside the residence.
The Escambia County Sheriff's Office SWAT team responded to the scene and attempted to negotiate with the man for several hours. Authorities stated that after negotiations failed, deputies used an armored vehicle to breach the front door of the residence. According to investigators, the man then exited the rear of the home carrying a shotgun. Deputies deployed less-lethal force in an attempt to end the confrontation, but authorities stated it was ineffective. Police reported that the man raised the shotgun toward deputies, who then opened fire, striking him.
Deputies and emergency medical personnel rendered aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's State Bureau of Investigation is conducting the independent investigation into the shooting. The deputies involved have not been publicly identified.
